HP Elite Dragonfly 13.5 inch G3 Notebook PC (4J040AV)

Dear ladies and gentlemen,

I have a charging problem with my new HP Elite Dragonfly G3 13.5'' notebook.

While travelling this week, I used my old non-HP travel charger which has an output of up to 120 W.

I returned back to the office today and noticed that the notebook is not charging when connected to my HP Thunderbolt Dock G4 120 W. Otherwise, the dock works normally (connection to monitor, keyboard, printer, LAN…). The charging light is not on. I tried the USB C ports on both sides.

I then connected the power adapter which came with my notebook (65 W). The charging light did turn on and the lightning bolt was shown on the battery symbol, but the notebook still kept losing battery. It got the same result with both USB C ports.

As I had run out of options, I connect my travel charger again and it works just fine, charging rapidly. Both USB C ports work with this charger.

It is almost like my notebook had been "spoiled" by my strong travel charger and would not accept anything else anymore.

Can you please help me get my Thunderbolt Dock G4 and my HP power adapter to work again.

Many thanks.

Hi, I am having exactly the same problem. The HP charger does not work once I used other type C charger.  I got my new  G3 two weeks ago and got that problem. My IT changed a new G3 to me. I used it about 1 wk and now seeing the same problem again. This time my left hand side type c failed while the right hand one is working fine using HP's original charger. Pls advise how to fix the problem. thanks.

Same issue here.. was working late last year when in the office when the machine was new. Now in the office two weeks later after using at home with fast charger, my TB4 dock works for everything other than charging. I have to plug in a separate fast charger on the other port to use for the time being. I tried 3 different TB4 docks from Razer, Belkin, and Lenovo and all experience the same issue.. no charging with TB4 connection.

Im on the latest firmware and drivers with Windows 11.

Hi, as per instruction from HP support, we can download a new firmware to fix the problem. However, my company not allow me to do so. I searched the Google and find a way to fix the problem. When shut down the notebook, you need to press the power on/off button for about 15sec. Then, restart the machine again. You will now able to plug in the original HP charger. However, the problem will reoccur when you plug in another type C fast charger. This will at least able to fix urgent need if you only have the HP original charger.
