Spectre x360 15 (2020) eb0xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Spectre x360 15 (with Nvidia GPU) is generating an incredible amount of coil whine. In a quiet room, it is almost impossible to work with it, and gives me a headache in no time at all. The coil whine persists with power or while running on battery. Is anyone else facing this issue? Can anyone suggest a fix?

Hi@suvamm, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

As I understand there's a coil whining sound when the charger is plugged in,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

  • When was the last time it worked without these issues?
  • Did you check with an alternate adapter to see if it still makes the noise?

While you respond to that, here's what you need to do::

  • Updating your Notebook computer BIOS (Skip this, since you've already done it)
  • Keeping notebook air vents clear and clean
  • Increasing the efficiency of the notebook to reduce heat
  • Using Windows Task Manager to identify corrupt processes
  • Selecting power save settings to shut off your computer when it is not in use

(By the end of this article all the issues should be resolved)

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, the steps didn't resolve my issue. The internals of the machine are completely clean. The coil whine persists with a different adapter as well. The coil whine reduces slightly while on battery. I don't see any processes affected it, the coil whine starts with the machine booting up (in fact it is highest during booting), and remains that way.
