HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-dk0xxx

This laptop has a 256 SSD, and supposedly an empty optical drive slot. I'd like to add a 2TB optical drive, but I'm not sure what the technical specs are. What kind of internal hard drive would be compatible?

What do you mean ? I don't know there is 2TB optical drive in this world. Anyway, I think you wish to ask 2TB 2.5" HDD to your machine. I did post many times: you have to buy parts as shown on page 37 of the following manual

Unfortunately, very hard to find parts on market today.

I believe HP would NOT offer dual storage options for new generations of machines therefore only option now is to buy models with more M.2 SSD storage now or upgrade M.2 storage to 1TB or 2TB later.

Regards.
