Hi again,

Sorry, another question.  You gave me advice on how to clean the printhead..  You said I could clean the printhead from the printer front panel.  What is that?  Is that the tiny little screen on the printer itself?  That is the only panel I have and it doesn't get me anywhere near that long link you sent.  I can find control panel tips on my little screen on the printer but nothing about printer maintenance and nothing with that long https:// address you gave me.  Is there supposed to be a printer screen on my computer screen?  This is what I am trying to get up but can't find a way to find it; all I have is the limited info on the tiny screen on the printer which doesn't do much.

Thanks.

To get the answer to this question, a printer control panel is a touchscreen on the printer itself from where we could perform cleaning printhead.

Method: 1

To clean the printhead from the printer display

a. Load Letter, A4, or legal unused plain white paper into the input tray.

b. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch (Setup).

c. Touch Printer Maintenance, select Clean Printhead and then follow the onscreen instructions.

Method: 2

If you do not find above options on the printer control panel, try cleaning printhead from printer software:

For Windows PC:

To clean the printhead from the printer software

a. Load letter, A4, or legal unused plain white paper into the input tray.

b. Open the HP printer software.

c. In the printer software, click Print, Scan, & Fax and then click Maintain Your Printer to access the Printer Toolbox.

d. Click Clean Printheads on the Device Services tab. Follow the onscreen instructions.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Wow, that was confusing (for me).  It didn't exactly go as you described it; I had to keep pressing on the buttons to get anywhere, otherwise all I got was the model of the printer, the serial number and the IP address.  Finally I got to  the place where you can clean the print heads.  I did it twice (as the screen suggested after the first one didn't do well) and I am getting black and blue and green but no overt yellow or magenta.  So I guess the only thing to do is to get a new color print cartridge.  Kind of strange, because I have barely used this one other than black; I guess, if it is possible, the yellow and magenta dried out.  So now to find a tri color cartridge somewhere in this burg. I think I can order them from Walmart and one Walmart store I was in which is quite a ways away, had them in stock.  I don't have a credit card and HP won't accept my bank debit card or a pre-loaded credit card so I have to get it locally.  Oh well, at least I know now something that I can do that may help it.

Thank you so much for your patience with me and all the help.

Thank you again for helping so much; all of you who did.

Against my better judgement, I went to Walmart on Sunday (every Sat and Sun is like the day before Christmas; crowds from heck and total mayhem).  I got my new color ink cartridges and installed them myself and it is working fine now.  I still can't figure how the magenta and yellow dried up but the cyan was still good, but whatever......

I saved a pic from the internet and printed it up to make sure.  This printer is very different from my old printer in terms of what you can do and I couldn't get the pic into jpg or png so couldn't attach it but it worked.

Thanks again.
