Get the dust bunnies out of the laptop.
Charge the battery fully before running any intensive applications. Your laptop will overheat if it has to both charge and run at turbo speed.
To mitigate the heat problem you should use a laptop cooler.
read the reviews and make sure it is the correct size.
In the Advanced Power Plan, set the percent processor utilization to %99 instead of %100 to prevent going into turbo. This can make a huge difference in temperature.

The laptop isn’t overheating, the fan will intermittently get louder. I originally thought it was the exhaust fan but my laptop gave me a message saying the cooling fan wasn’t working properly. I’ve had no issue with my computer generally except the noise.

I misunderstood, sorry
Go to the below site and enter your serial number
https://partsurfer.hp.com
Look for the part you need such as fan, cable, battery, etc.
If looking to replace a cable (for example) the HP part# is usually on a tag and the manufacturers part is sometimes printed on the cable. If no picture is shown then search for images of the listed HP part# and compare it to your broken part.
If your provide your product ID possibly I can find the part. There is the possibility the part may include the entire heat sink. Frequently the fan has an OEM part number and you can get just the fan somewhere else and attach to the existing heat sink.

Thanks so much for getting back to me.
The product ID is 2FW62AV.
You mentioned it possibly containing the heat sink, do you think that would be a problem trying to do it myself? I don't think it is worth the money to send in the laptop for repair out of warranty and I'm not really ready to part with this laptop as it still works great and able to perform updates.
I thought about opening up the bottom but I'm hesitant as I don't know if the glue would hold for the bumpers on the bottom or the clear strip across the screws. Do you have any recommendations?

After some research, the part number for the fan kit is L15605-001. I found one on amazon,
that looks to be both the GPU and CPU fans. Common sense tells me it would be idea to replace both at the same time.
