HP Spectre 15-ap000 x360 Convertible PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The cursor jumps to the middle of the screen and can be seen continuously, rapidly shooting from the center of the screen to the top of the screen whether i'm using it or not, with a mouse plugged or not, its driving me insane

If I am trying to click on somewhere specific on the screen the cursor will jump back to the center and go up and down erratically,  I have no control over it and because of it i cannot use the computer it wont let me click on anything or do anything.

I changed the setting to shut off the touch-pad while my mouse is plugged in. I have removed the USB connection on my  mouse and the problem persist. If I completely disable the touch-pad the problem persists. I have done a complete virus/spyware scan and the system is clean. I have applied the most recent windows updates as well.

It appears to have something to do with the display light, when the light is on high it behaves for a bit, when it goes dim it acts up again, also when laptop is charging it doesn't go as crazy but the moment i remove the plug and the display light changes it acts up again.

i formatted this laptop several times already and still same issue, i took all updates of window and hp necessary and still same issue, i  am so sick of this problem, can someone please help

thank you

@VancouverNina

Are you referring to the Touchpad cursor been erratic and moving by itself?

I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Keep me posted how it goes

Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊

Hello KrazyToad

i appreciate the response, however i've done this already, i've also formatted my laptop twice and microsoft store even formatted it for me once thinking they could fix it, as i bought my laptop from there, nothing seems to fix it, by the way when i bought my laptop this wasnt happening, a couple of weeks after when it took a windows update is when it started acting crazy, with a mouse or without a mouse, the cursor wont stop.

Once it takes the windows updates this happens, something is defective for sure because 2 of my colleagues have the same laptop, we all bought them together and theirs doesnt do that, we all took the same updates.

i don't know what to do anymore this is so frustrating. i'll take a video later and show you.
