Subject: Critical Bug in BIOS F.08 Content: USB Type-A Port Power Completely Locked (EC Chip Issue) on HP Envy x360 14-fa0038AU
Hello HP Support Team,
I am writing this to report a critical and severe firmware bug introduced in the latest BIOS Update Revision F.08 for my HP Envy x360 2-in-1 Laptop 14-fa0038AU (Serial Number: CND4220ZFP) running Windows 11 Version 25H2.
While the BIOS F.08 update successfully resolved the thermal shutdown/fan profile issue, it has completely broke the power delivery of the USB Type-A port. The port has 0W output—it cannot even charge a mobile phone or power up a basic USB mouse.
As a technical user, I have performed exhaustive troubleshooting to isolate the issue, proving it is a pure hardware-level Embedded Controller (EC) firmware lock caused by your BIOS code:
  1. Windows & Drivers Re-installation: Completely wiped and clean-installed standalone AMD Chipset Drivers (GPIO/I2C power controllers) and Windows Optional AMD System Drivers (1.0.20.0).
  2. OS Independent Lock: The port remains completely dead even inside Safe Mode and during the boot phase, indicating a permanent power rail cut-off at the EC layer.
  3. ACPI & Registry Tweaks: Uninstalled and re-scanned USB Root Hubs and modified Registry DisableSelectiveSuspend to force power, but the motherboard refuses to pass current.
  4. BIOS Reset: Disabled Secure Boot and fully cleared/restored HP Factory Default Keys, but the EC NVRAM power layout remains frozen by the F.08 firmware.
This is a known issue being widely discussed on the HP Support Forum where users are experiencing dead ports after this specific update. Since rolling back the BIOS triggers the dangerous thermal shutdown issue again, we are stuck with broken hardware.
HP needs to escalate this to the firmware engineering team immediately to release an Emergency BIOS Fix (F.09 / Hotfix) to unlock the EC power rails for the USB-A ports. Looking forward to a swift technical response and an immediate firmware patch.
