HP Notebok 15-ay196nr
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hi There,

I would like to upgrade my HP notebook model - 15-ay196nr. I am thinking of two options -

1) Crucial MX500 500GB 3D NAND SATA M.2 (2280SS) Internal SSD, up to 560MB/s - CT500MX500SSD4

2) Crucial MX500 500GB 3D NAND SATA 2.5 Inch Internal SSD, up to 560MB/s - CT500MX500SSD1

First one is M2 so I guess with that I will still keep my HD and upgrade but with second one I will have to replace my HD.

So first of all are both option compatible with my laptop Model? Any idea, if I can check it online on HP site anywhere?

If both of them are compatible which option I should choose and why?

Hi:

I highly recommend you open up your notebook before buying a M.2 SSD.

15-ay### notebooks that did not come with a M.2 SSD from the factory normally do not come with a M.2 slot.

Below is the link to the service manual...

The 2.5" Crucial MX500 is excellent, but here is one that has slightly faster write speeds for just a couple of dollars more.
