@Dev008, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're facing issues with certain keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl + S, Ctrl + X, and Ctrl + W not working across apps, even after BIOS repair and driver updates. Let's walk through a few steps to help isolate and resolve this issue.
Test the Physical Keys
- Open Notepad or any text editor.
- Press the Left Ctrl key and observe if it registers. Then test S, X, and W individually.
- Try using Right Ctrl + S/X/W to see if the issue is isolated to the Left Ctrl key.
If the keys work individually but not in combination, it may be a software or driver issue.
Check for Sticky Keys or Accessibility Settings
- Go to Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard.
- Make sure Sticky Keys and Filter Keys are turned off.
- Restart the system and test again.
Use HP Keyboard Diagnostic Tool
HP provides a built-in diagnostic tool to test keyboard functionality:
- Turn off the notebook.
- Turn it back on and immediately press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
- Press F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
- Select Component Tests > Keyboard Test.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to test the affected keys.
Clean Boot to Rule Out Software Conflicts
- Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
- Under the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
- Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
- Disable all startup items.
- Restart your PC and test the shortcuts again.
If they work in clean boot, a third-party app may be interfering.
External Keyboard Test
Try connecting an external USB keyboard and test the same shortcuts. If they work fine, the issue may be with the notebook's built-in keyboard hardware.
Update or Reinstall Keyboard Driver
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Keyboards, right-click your keyboard device, and choose Uninstall device.
- Restart your PC to reinstall the driver automatically.
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it may be a hardware fault with the keyboard. In that case, please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
