I just got a used HP laptop and when I power it on, it displays DDR3 not supported. Should I be worried about it? What does that mean? Thank you.

Hi:

Someone installed the wrong voltage DDR3 memory.

If you are getting that message, your notebook uses the DDR3L memory which is 1.35V.

DDR3 memory is 1.5V.

I don't know exactly what will happen if you don't install the right type of memory but the memory will probably run hotter than it should because it is drawing more voltage that the PC supports.

I recommend that you take it back to where you bought it and have them install the right memory it needs.

The recommendation was.sone and it solved the error. I mean the ram upgrade from DDR3 to DDR3L. However, I also noticed the PC doesn't have Bluetooth or camera. Is that even possible? And what can I do about that?

Thank you so much!

I also noticed that the upper short cut keys controlling volume, light and others don't work.

You're very welcome.

In order to answer your follow up questions, I would need to know:

The full model number or product number of your notebook.

What operating system you are running on it (Windows, 7, 8.1, 10).

Product ID: 00330-80000-00000-AA746

Thank you very much!

You're very welcome.

That is not the model number or product number of your notebook.

The product ID you posted is the product ID for Windows.

I also need to know what version of Windows the product ID is for.

Windows 8. Would this help? Thank you.

One last thing to try.

Enter the serial number of the notebook in the search window at the link below, and it will provide the model number/product number of your notebook.

HP PartSurfer

Then just copy and paste the model number or product number of your notebook from the parts list in your reply.

Is your notebook running W8, or W8.1?
