I have an HP Pavilion DV6 laptop, which originally came with Windows 7 64 bit, with a BD player, model TS-LB23L.
The BD player used to read DVDs and BDs without issues.
After I upgraded the OS to Windows 10, the BD player stop reading DVDs, furthermore BDs.
I think it may be a firmware issue.
The DVDWBD player is correctly recognized in the Device Manager, there are no conflicts whatsoever, but it just doesn't read any disc.
The firmware is 0400, however I've seen some sited listing a firmware update to 0600, although they turn to be bogus.
There's no indication the firmware update is posted in the HP website, which makes me think either the 0600 firmware doesn't exist or it's no longer supported.
Essentialy I have a useless DVDWBD player in my laptop. Either I downgrade my OS to Win7 or get a new player.
I've seen other posts in the forum people have Windows not recognizing the player, but this is not my case. Windows does correcly recognize the player.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi @Peter_Cha
Welcome to HP Support Forums. A really great platform for posting all your questions and finding solutions.
I understand that the DVD drive is not reading any Media after upgrading to Windows 10.
To be able to assist you better, please provide me with the Notebook Product Number
You can refer to this Link: hp.care/2bygf7l for help in locating the Product Number.
Meantime try these steps
- In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
- In the list of devices, look for CD/DVD and expand the list
- Right-click the device and select Update Driver Software.
- Click Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the updated driver.
- Restart your computer to complete the installation of the updates.
If the issue persists, try playing a DVD in the Command Prompt and check if it read the DVD
-
In Windows, search for and open Command Prompt.
-
Type diskpart at the command prompt and press Enter.
If you are prompted for an Administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Figure : Command Prompt: diskpart
-
Insert a disc that contains files into the drive that is having the problem. Use a type of disc that is not being recognized in the drive. Good discs to use are game or software discs that were purchased from a store. Do not use music CDs. If the DVD drive can read CDs but not DVDs, insert a DVD movie.
-
Wait about 20 seconds for the disc to achieve full spin velocity.
-
Type list volume at the command prompt.
-
Press the Enter key and look at the list.
Under the Ltr column, find and remember the drive letter next to the CD/DVD drive that contains the disc.
Figure : List Volume
-
Type Exit and press the Enter key to return to the command prompt.
-
Make sure you type the correct drive letter for the drive that contains the disc, followed by a colon (:). For example, if the drive letter was listed as E in the diskpart list, you would type the following:
E:
Figure : Drive letter
-
Press the Enter key, and then type the following at the new command prompt:
dir
Figure : Drive directory command
-
Press the Enter key. A list of files and folders should display on the screen.
-
Do one of the following tasks depending on what is shown on the screen:
-
If a list of filenames and folders is shown on the screen, the disc data is recognized by the drive. The issue is not likely related to the drive or the disc. It is probably related to the software configuration in Windows. Continue to Step 5: Reinstalling the CD/DVD drive in Device Manager.
-
If the message "device is not ready" is shown, or the screen fails to update after 30 seconds, the disc or the drive may be bad.
-
Keep me posted how it goes.
Thank you. 🙂

PN XH105UA Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC running Windows 7 Premium. The DVDBWD TS-LB23L ATA Device is not reading DVDs or CDs. I followed the instructions from HP. I uninstalled the device from the device manager. I restarted the computer. The device driver message indicated that the device driver installed correctly. The device is seen, but will not read store bought DVDs or CDs.

Thanks for replying. Appreciate you trying the steps. You were interacting with @Jeet_singh earlier, but he is out of the office today, so I'll take over from here.
Let's try these steps -
Solution# 1 Try updating using the HP Support Assistant -
1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.
If the issue still persists, try creating a new user account.
Solution# 2 Create a new user account -
1) Tap the Windows icon.
2) Select Settings.
3) Tap Accounts.
4) Select Family & other users.
5) Tap "Add someone else to this PC."
6) Select "I don't have this person's sign-in information."
7) Select "Add a user without a Microsoft account."
😎 Enter a username, type the account's password twice, enter a clue and select Next.
9) Tap the Windows icon.
10) Select the User icon at the upper left corner of the Start menu.
11) Select the new user. You'll then sign into your account with your password from step 8.

It's great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.
After reviewing your post thoroughly, I understand you have tried to follow the steps suggested and unfortunately nothing has helped to resolve this issue. No worries, as I have a few other steps which should help you resolve this issue.
I would suggest here is to run the hardware and device troubleshooter and if the issue persists, I would suggest here is to run a test on the optical drive from Hardware diagnostics.
For more details, please follow this link: HP PCs - CD/DVD Drive Cannot Read Discs (Windows 10, 😎
If the test passes, I would suggest here is to perform a system reset on the PC - HP PCs - Resetting Your Computer (Windows 10)
Let me know how it goes for further assistance.
that said, If the information I've provided was helpful,
give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck.

The HP Pavilion dv7 is running Windows 7. The solution you suggest is for Windows 10, 8. I Tried it anyway. The window that opens when I select F2 does not have a component tests option. There is no optical drive option to select to diagnose.
I found an article in the KB c01895589 HP PCs - CD/DVD Drive Is Not Detected (Windows7). I've tried everything suggested except Step 5. Editing the registry seems dangerous, but I'm going to try it later.
