We (in the UK) have a Pavilion 15-CW1511 laptop, about 4 years old now. The battery is basically dead, comes up with the battery warning on boot.
Got a replacement from a laptop battery supplier (all the right part numbers etc). Fitted it (hard work), but it will not charge. Reset the CMOS, removed and reinstalled the battery drivers. No different. The supplier sent another battery in case that one was faulty, no different. The HP assistant just says no battery detected. Put the original one back and it is OK again.
Hunting for an answer, I found some clues on the internet that just maybe there is some s/w code in the battery that the HP system checks on power up, and if it does not recognise the code in the battery, no go. It certainly seems to be what is happening.
Is this right? Can you really not fit a 3rd party battery to this laptop? Does this mean that only HP can replace the battery? I hope that isn't true, but it looks like it. In which case it is probably a dustbin job, I guess. Bit disappointed after only 4 years.

3rd party batteries will work. Just yesterday I replaced the battery in my old Spectre with a knockoff I bought on amazon and this is the second time I have done the replacement. My Zbook has also had 2 compatible battery replacements. My suggestion is to return the ones you have and try another battery maker. I have never had a battery just refuse to be recognized particularly when you try a second one of the same type.
This is the battery, right?

That is one of the more common HP batteries and there should be lots of purchase options. New genuine is more money but likely worth it in this case:
That is a good seller who would definitely honor a return if it does not work for you.

That is exactly the battery. The supplier did refund, and since they couldn't be easily collected (post limitations) I still have two perfectly good new batteries that won't charge!
I'll have a look at the supplier you mention. Thanks.
I must say getting inside it is a pain in the neck.

UPDATE 9th January
Received the 'genuine HP' battery from the supplier recommended above. Noted that this one had an HP label on it, whereas the previous ones were the right model numbers, but didn't have an HP label.
And - it is recognised and works, so, thanks.
So, it seems to me that there is something / some code that is checked by the HP battery manager, and, right model numbers and fully functional or not, if that code doesn't match, no go. Moral is, buy genuine HP batteries, even if they cost more (which they do).
