My USB-C Thunderbolt port seems to be dead. My laptop doesn't recognize anything plugged into it, and the port doesn't deliver power to anything plugged into it (e.g. phone, docking station, HDMI adapter). Last week it was working. I was running a Pluggable docking station through the port when it stopped working. I initially thought it was the docking station, but now realize nothing works on the port. I have pulled up Device Manager and looked at Universal Serial Bus controllers, and my USB-C is not even listed there with the other USB 3.0 ports. I tried to run diagnostics at startup, but the diagnostic said USB-C ports weren't supported through the diagnostic, so that was no help. Please help me determine if this port can be turned back on. Thanks.

Hi @asherFTW1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've done some thorough troubleshooting already. Here are a few more steps you can take to try and resolve the issue.
- Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can solve connectivity issues.
- Update Drivers: Even though the port isn't showing up in Device Manager, it's worth checking if there are any driver updates available for your laptop's USB-C Thunderbolt port. You can check the HP website for driver updates or use a driver update tool.
- Check BIOS Settings: Sometimes, USB ports can be disabled or configured incorrectly in the BIOS settings. Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS settings (usually by pressing a key like F2 or Del during startup). Look for any settings related to USB ports and make sure they are enabled.
- Try a Different USB-C Device: To rule out the possibility of the issue being with the devices you're connecting, try plugging in a different USB-C device, such as a flash drive or another docking station, to see if it's recognized.
- Reset the Port: Some laptops have a reset function for USB ports. Check your laptop's manual or the HP website to see if there's a specific procedure for resetting the USB ports.
- Hardware Inspection: If none of the above steps work, there may be a hardware issue with the USB-C port itself.
Since you mentioned that the port stopped working while using a docking station, there's a possibility that the docking station caused some damage to the port. If you have access to another docking station, you could try connecting it to see if the port responds.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
