Want to upgrade SSD to 2TB. I installed the Intel Optane Memory and Storage management and I run it and disable it . However, I do NOT see where to change the BIOS to allow me to upgrade to non-Optane. I have not found any 2TB Optane SSD. When I boot and start the setup, it can't find the drive.

Any ideas?  I chatted with HP support and they wanted to GET PAID to tell me.

Hi Paul:

I was finally able to do it a different way. Since the new SSD I bought was a Samsung and they have a cloning app, I took that route after disabling the Optane. The clean install of Windows 11 using the other driver(s) did not work.

Thank you for your help and support. It is highly appreciated.

Hi:

Not all PC's have a BIOS setting to disable the Intel Optane memory.

You can refer to the last two sections of the article at the link below to confirm that you did what was necessary (assuming your PC has a BIOS setting to disable the Intel Optane).

Otherwise disabling it with the RST software would be sufficient.

As to why Windows can't find a hard drive to install...

Since your notebook has an Intel 11th gen core processor, there is a special process needed to clean install W10/W11 on notebooks with the Intel 11th gen core processors...

See the info at the link below.

Here is the link to the driver you need...

This package contains the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver for the supported notebook models and operating systems. The Intel Rapid Storage Technology is designed to provide functionality for the Intel Storage Controllers. The driver improves Serial ATA (SATA) disk performance with Native Command Queuing.

There is an error in that document, and that is where HP tells you to right click on the Intel driver file and select Extract to

When I ran through the steps, I don't get an Extract to option when I right click on the file.

You will probably have the same issue.  Download and install the free 7-zip file utility from the link below.

The 1st file at the top of the page is for 64 bit.

7-Zip (7-zip.org)

Then you can right click on the exe file, select 7-Zip from the menu, and select Extract to:  and let it extract the file into its folder name (sp135979), and copy that folder to your USB flash drive, and continue with the instructions.

You're very welcome.

Well, I tried it with your driver and then to the HP site also and downloaded the two available drivers for my laptop to no avail.  There is no BIOS option for Optane and I ensured it is disabled in the Intel Mem and Storage app.

I tried it with WIn 10 boot USBs and Win 11. I even recreated the USB drives and extracted the drivers to it

It simply does not see a viable driver.  I'm using a Samsung 970 EVO plus.

My next step is use Clonezilla.

Paul, thanks for your time and effort.

Sincerely,

H. Aleman

You're very welcome.

If the PC came with Windows pre-installed from HP, it may be supported by the HP cloud recovery tool, which you can use to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that originally came with the notebook on the new SSD.

See this link for how to use that utility.
