HP Spectre 500 Mouse

Hi,

I believe there may have been a small amount of orange juice that got on my mouse (from the smooshed orange I found in my backpack) and now the button is sticky. Is there a way to disassemble this mouse without breaking it? No visible holes for screws and it seems only the bottom is able to be removed (the rest looks like one solid piece). It seems like it wants to come off however I do not want to break any clips inside so I haven't applied that much force yet. Any knowledge out there of where to start?

Thanks!

@Horbzzz Welcome to HP Community!

I reviewed your concern and the entire conversation, did some research and here's what I recommend:

Now this is a trade secret, not something most people would tell you, so personally you can either do this or run the hardware test, if it fails you could discuss your options on getting the device repaired/replaced via HP for a nominal fee (as accidental damages are not covered by the factory warranty).

Here goes nothing:

  • If you have rice at your home/place,
  • simply put your device under it for a day, leave the rice on top of the device too (cover the device with rice),
  • the rice tends to absorb the moisture / liquid inside the device and therefore resolving the issue and no, I'm not kidding...
  • I resolved this issue when I jumped into the pool with my phone and it stopped working but miraculously leaving it under a bowl of rice for a day, resurrected my phone.

there you go, try it...and if you are not comfortable with it or for some reason it doesn't work:

I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started, as we don't have option to open it up or disassemble it.

1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,

here's how private messages work: Click here for details.

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.
