I mentioned the plate because the Manual seems to say that an M.2 is supported and a lot of 3rd party sites will list models that can take an M.2 without a lot of further explanation and I just want to avoid the debate so I explain exactly how your model might be listed as compatible with an M.2 SSD even though it is only compatible with an M.2 with additional expense and trouble. As @iomare says, for you an NVME is just not in the cards on that laptop. It would fit in the adapter plate but the system would not see it as all storage disks have to connect through a SATA bus. So your fastest, easiest, cheapest storage solution is a 2.5 inch SATA SSD such as the Samsung 860 Evo. Don't knock it; they are fast and a huge improvement over a hard drive and the prices have fallen a lot in the last 6-8 months.

Hi,
No, there is no extra slot for M2 SSD.
What you can do, is replace the 2.5" HDD with a 2.5" SSD such as the 2.5" Samsung 860 Evo or similar
Example:
it will give a great boost to the system. On page 50 of the service manual, you can see the steps to replace the drive.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05227786
you will need to reinstall the OS on the SSD.
Hope it helps,
David

There is no M.2 slot on the motherboard. A SATA M.2 can optionally be installed by way of a plate that adapts an M.2 SSD to the bay where the hard drive is usually located. So you cannot have an M.2 SSD and a hard drive at the same time. Further, a SATA type M.2 SSD is no faster than a 2.5 inch SATA SSD so buying an adapter plate and cable is just unneeded extra cost when you could simply place a 2.5 inch SATA SSD such as the Samsung 860 Evo into the same bay where the hard drive is, using the same hardware.
See p. 56 of the Manual here for a picture of the M.2 adapter plate and cable.

Thanks for the detailed explanation but i want to install an M2 ssd the NVMe one not the SATA as later i will be changing the laptop so i won't have to buy the NVMe ssd for the new one. So, if i plan to buy the case and install the NVMe M2 ssd in place of the hdd will the speed of ssd be same comparying to sata version or faster than that.

What i mean is i would want to install a ssd like the kingston a1000 and if do so by using the plate and placing it where the hdd is currently, the speed will it be max like the stats that kingston shows or limited to that of the SATA version only.

Thanks alot btw for helping me out.
Really appreciate it

Hi,
Even if you buy the plate it will still only support M2 SATA3 SSD such as the M2 Samsung 860 Evo. It will not support M2 PCIe NVMe SSD.
This is the reason I did not mention the plate. As it would just be easier and less expensive, with the same speed, to install an 2.5" SATA3 SSD.

David
