HP Pavillion 14-ce3600sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The HP Pavillion 14-ce3600sa laptop I have just purchased has one HDMI port to which I have connected an external 24" monitor. I wish connect a second external 24" monitor and have purchased a USB Type-C to HDMI adapter. When I plug this adapter into the laptop I receive a message from the Windows 10 OS saying that the display connection might be limited  and to make sure the display port device that I am connecting is supported by my PC. I don't receive any video output to the second HDMI monitor using this adapter.

So does my laptop USB Type-C port support a USB to HDMI Adapter for a second HDMI Monitor ?

I looked up the Product Spec and found this text regarding the USB ports ?

  "Type-C™ (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate); 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A (Data Transfer Only)"

I see that it states "Data Transfer Only". So if the USB Type-C port doesn't support a USB to HDMI adpater, will either of the USB 3.1 ports support such an adapter if I were to purchase one ?

As I'm keen to find a solution that will provide me with the same 2 * 24" HDMI monitors on my new laptop, which will reflect the same setup as I have in my company office workspace.

Many thanks,

Chris.

I bought the Cable Matters USB-A to HDMI DisplayLink adapter/converter and it works fine.

So I now have my 2 * External 24" HDMI Monitors working.

As you can see the USB-C port is Type-C™ (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate).   If you wish to have 2 or more external monitors (and notebook monitor - total 3), please enter your requirement on the following link and it will find for you few USB-A DisplayLink Certified options on market today including some HP products (you can select HP before Search)

Thanks for your reply Banhien.

I did buy the following USB-C adapter, which has a HDMI 4K port

CUHIOY USB C Hub Adapter, USB C to HDMI 4K, 6 in 1 USB C Dock Dongle with 3 USB 3.0 Ports, Gigabit Ethernet RJ45, Type C Power Delivery Port

But the product spec of my laptop says that both USB-C and USB-A are both "Data Transfer Only".

So I am wondering if all the USB ports on the laptop are limited to data transfer at the hardware level, will any of them be able to driver HDMI video devices via an adapter.

I you're saying this is possible, do I need to purchase a DisplayLink or HP branded dock/adapter in order for this to work ?

As although both the CUHIOY USB-C adapter and the HP USB-C/A Universal Dock G2 state that they support HP laptops, neither specifically mentions the model I have.

Many thanks,

Chris.

Also, I saw this post replying to another user with a similar issue:

This one looks like it will work. You can Google search USB 3 to HDMI and get all kinds of results.

https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-SuperSpeed-Adapter-Windows/dp/B00BPEV1XK

But as the product spec for my laptop also says the USB-A 3.1 ports are also data transfer only. will the above Cable Matters Display Link adapter work to forward video via USB-A 3.1 port to my second HMDI monitor ?

Many thanks,
