To the best of my knowledge, I have a ZBook Studio G3 running Windows 10 64-bit Education version 1809. I recently was given a Thunderbolt G2 dock with audio (audio that I can't figure out how to use). I have connected, through the dock, my Samsung WQHD Monitor (S27D850T) via a display port connection. The Samsung has a USB hub built into it and, due to the small number of USB ports on the dock and the proximity of my keyboard/mouse (yes, both still USB) to my monitor, I plug keyboard/mouse into monitor.
Well, sometimes those devices are available, and sometimes they're not. Sometimes, especially if I disconnect my laptop for the purpose of going to a meeting and then reconnect to the dock hoping to continue working, re-establishing the connection to the USB devices through my monitor requires me closing all open applications and rebooting my laptop.
It's way too much work, and shouldn't be necessary. What am I doing wrong? Shouldn't the Thunderbolt dock be able to recognize a usb hub in my monitor with reliability?

You need to connect Upstream USB port from your computer to the monitor to be able to use all other USB ports.
Regards.
