I have tried to add a second 16MB memory module (Kingston 16GB DDR4 3200MHz SODIMM 260pin CL22 KVR32S22S8/16), but the laptop is failing to boot with it (3 short + 2 long beeps on boot).
Can I increase the onboard memory at all?

Max is 64 gigs...2 x 32 of DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM. HP notebooks have long had a history of issues with Kingston Value RAM. Kingston has set this memory to be very generic and work in a broad range of computers. It is often sold at computer stores as a one size fits all option. HPs don't like it, however. I suggest you try to find more generic OEM memory like Samsung or Hynix. Also avoid gaming or "performance" memory with faster timings particularly the CL setting. Lastly try to match the density of the original module; either single or dual rank of memory blocks on the side of the chip.

Thanks for the response.
It's strange that the new module alone works well, but it doesn't work together with the original one, though memory size, speed and rank (single) match each other. So I'm now stock with a memory module that works, but I can't use it.
