I know this are old threads on this topics but I couldn't find any concrete answers there .
I am using HP Pavilion - 15-au626tx running on windows 10 64bit. Complete specification at https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c05346395 or you can find at other websites if link doesn't work.
I searched a lot on google but couldn't find anything concrete about my 3 questions below.
1. Does it have m.2 SSD slot? ( a lot of guys say yes/no.if you have upgraded it then please let me know .From the mother board pics online I couldn't find anything conclusive.I can't open my laptop case because then my warranty will become null and void as per hp rules and I cross checked with customer care too. )
2. If it has m.2 slot, does it support NVMe SSDs?
3. Does the m.2 slot work along with HDD as dual storage? OR it is a case where either m.2 SSD will be work as storage or HDD,Not both working together and connected to mother board.

Hi,
Ok, let's take a look at the questions.
If there is a slot in the notebook it will support only M2 SATA3 SSD such as the M2 Samsung 860 Evo or similar. Not M2 PCIe NVMe.
If there is a slot it will support dual storage. So you can install the OS on the SSD (for speed) and keep the old drive for storage.
Now to be a hundred percent sure that there is a slot you will need to remove the bottom cover and take a look. The service manual does mention the slot, however, sometimes on models that did not come with M2 SSD the physical slot is missing on the motherboard.
Upgrading RAM and Drives is an accepted practice. In any case, to upgrade the notebook (you will get a great boost in everyday performance) you will need to open the bottom cover.
On page 29 of service manual, you can see the steps to remove the bottom cover

So if the slot is there you can install an M2 SATA3 SSD
If the slot is not present you can replace the mechanical Hard Drive and insert a 2.5" SATA3 SSD. It will give a great boost to performance.
Hope it helps,
David

I opened my laptop and checked the motherboard. There is no slot for m.2 SSD.Hence this laptop model does not support m.2 SSD.The m.2 SSD support mentioned at Crucial or any other SSD website are not true for this model.
ONLY way I can use SSD is by replacing my HDD with SSD.
I hope this thread helps anybody who is looking for any questions similar to mine.
