I have an Omen 17.3" (892Q9EA#AB8) which came with 32GB (2x16GB) 5600MHz DDR5 RAM. Can I upgrade this model to to 2x32GB 5600MHz DDR5 RAM?

Hi:
The Crucial memory report indicates that you can:
HP - Compaq HP OMEN 17-ck2000 | Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | Crucial.com
The service manual HP has on your notebook's support page is outdated.
OMEN 17.3 inch Gaming Laptop PC 17-ck2000 - Setup and User Guides | HP® Support
You can run this command to see if your notebook will support more than 32 GB of memory:
1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.
This will open the command prompt.
2. After the command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.
There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.
The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

Dear Paul,
Thank you for your kind and helpful reply. I did try the command you suggested and even added MemoryDevices at the end as well.
So I ran the command "wmic memphysical get MaxCapacity, MemoryDevices" and got the following result
33554432 2
It seems that my The Omen 17-ck20xx (which has 13th Gen Intel i9 and nVidia GeForce 4090 RTX) only allows 32GB of RAM (2x16GB) and will not run 64GB RAM, shame.
Again, many thanks for your kind assistance.

Thank you for coming back to the forum to give us this feedback kcenani.
This is very strange. As Paul_Tikkanen EXPERT Level 22 said, Crucial has these machines as 64GB max RAM systems. Furhermore, the previous Alder Lake Gaming Laptops (both Omen and Victus) have been reported here as easily and successfully upgraded to 2x32GB RAM. The only difference is that the speed of the modules was 4800. I've also seen many 17-ck2000 laptops sold on Amazon upgraded to 64GB: Amazon1 Amazon2 Amazon3 Amazon4 Amazon5 Amazon6 . They've used 4800 RAM for the upgrade, although the CPU is the i9 Raptor Lake. It crossed my mind that perhaps the 5600 RAM (when used) limits the system to 32GB, but then I saw this post (https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Omen-17-cm2000-Max-Ram/td-p...) where the similar 17-cm2000 got the same result from the command even though this is a 4800 RAM system.
It seems very unlikely that HP has reduced the maximum RAM from the 64GB limit on the Alder Lake 17-ck1000 to just 32GB on the Raptor Lake refresh. Something is very wrong with this picture. Did you run the command as advised with the Ex at the end? If not, try it again. If you still get the same result, it won't be the first time the SMBIOS info is buggy........ In cases like these, the only way to be sure is by actually trying a 32GB module. Borrow from a friend, find a store that has a good return policy, something like that.

You're very welcome, @kcenani
I agree that if you can test out a 32 GB memory chip and leave one of the 16 GB chips installed and the PC works fine with 48 GB then you should be able to install 64 GB of memory in your notebook.

Dear TzortzisG,
Thank you for your lengthy reply as well. I did go ahead and bought a set of Kingston Fury Impact SODIMM 64GB 5600MHz CL40 (2x32GB) kit (KF556S40IBK2-64) and installed it to my Omen yesterday. Remarkably the motherboard accepted the set and the machine passed the MemTest. Windows recognized 64GB RAM as well.HP Hardware MemTest
Windows RAM Info
Old Hynix RAM Modules
New Kingston RAM Modules
So, the SMBIOS info appears to be buggy as you suggested.
I thank you all for your valuable contributions.

Just replying here to say that the most awesome thing is that Kcenani came back to the forum to give as this feedback. Unfortunately many users ask for advice, yet they never return to inform us of the outcome. So I totally agree with Paul_Tikkanen EXPERT Level 22 that this information will in fact be very helpful to a lot of Omen buyers (or potential ones).
As far as the maximum RAM support (and the SMSBIOS info) is concerned, even the previous generation of these Omen laptops with the Alder Lake CPUs had a theoretical (according to Intel specs) max RAM limit of 128GB DDR5, and this generation supposedly supports even more RAM. So it was obvious that there was no truth to the 32GB maxcapacity result. That would mean that these powerful and brand new Omen gaming flagships would be limited to the amount of RAM I use on my maxed out Skylake and Kabylake HP laptops that came out in 2016 and 2017! It's more than likely that 64GB is not the limit either for these 13th gen Intel Omens...........
