I want to know if my 15-cs0061cl has an M2 slot for an SSD? If not, what kind of adapter do I need to get to accommodate my crucial T500 SSD to replace my failed hard drive.

I understand your 16 GB Optane card has two notches and the new M.2 NVMe SSD has just one, but the NVMe drive will fit in the M.2 slot and work.
As I said earlier, a gen4 NVMe SSD will not run at its designed speeds from the gen3 slot, but other than that it should work fine.

Your model comes with an M.2 slot that supports NVMe gen3 SSDs.
See this thread's accepted solution where the person installed an M.2 NVMe SSD.

A Crucial T500 gen4 SSD will work but won't run at its gen4 designed speeds from the gen3 slot. You can probably expect the SSD to run around 3500 MB/s.
This HP video may be of help for M.2 drive installation.

- I guess my original question was incomplete, I'm trying to replace my the SSD i replaced my SATA with. The replacement SSD died and the warranty replacement is the Crucial T500.
- I cannot figure out where I'm supposed to install the replacement NVMe for my original SATA drive.
- Attached is a photo of my laptop.
appreciate your time in advance.

See the screenshot below where the M.2 drive is marked with red lines.
I magnified your photo and found The M.2 drive is not a SATA SSD, but it is a 16 GB Optane memory. HP parts list confirms that your model has a 1 TB hard drive and 16 GB Optane (16 GB M.2 NVMe SSD).
Optane is paired up with a hard drive to create a RAID configuration which significantly increases the performance of a hard drive.
Normally, you need to disable Optane memory in the Intel Optane management software in Windows before removing it, but you sounded you wouldn't be able to boot into Windows because "the SSD died."
What you can do is to go into F10 BIOS then go to 'Configuration.' If you see 'UEFI HII Configuration' or any Raid/Optane entry, expand it to see if you can disable Optane.
If you are not able to disable Optane in the BIOS, just replace the Optane drive with the new MVMe SSD.

Thank you, my concern is that when I took out the card you outlined the end of the card has a different slot pattern thank the card I received. The one I pulled out has 2 slots in it, the new SSD only has one. Does that matter?
