Hi all,
I have an "HP EliteBook 840 G5" (2FA64AV) notebook with Windows 10 (64 bit).
I've tried to set fingerprints for Windows Hello but the Windows could not see the fingerprint sensor. There is not a "Biometric" section in the "Device Manager" and I cannot find any biometric or fingerprint related section in the BIOS settings.
This is a second-hand notebook so I do not have the original documents.
Could you help me to verify my notebook has a fingerprint sensor or not?
Thanks,
Gabor

All HP 840 G5 machines should have Finger Print sensor/reader. My machine does have, I believe your machine also has

Apologies for jumping in unannounced.
So, I was curious about this but could not check on it until now...
Your product is listed as "Base Model" - this is perhaps not the same thing as the "full" model in terms of what is included. @banhien will correct me if I am wrong about that assumption.
The service guide documentation includes the reader listed as an Option but cannot provide whether or not your machine includes this specialty hardware.

Fingerprint reader or plug
Allows a fingerprint logon to Windows, instead of a password logon.NOTE:The fingerprint reader and plug look similar. To verify you have a fingerprint reader and not a plug, press the Windows key on your keyboard, select Settings, select Accounts, and then select Sign-in options and follow the on-screen instructions.
I would "guess" just based on the fact that you cannot find a BIOMETRICS entry in the Device Manager, that your machine does not include the fingerprint reader hardware.

What else?
One way I have found to check - aside from pulling apart the machine or depending on the documentation and the device manager - is to use Part Surfer with the serial number of the device.
We do not want to know your serial number - this is something you can check for yourself.
If the detailed data is available for your machine, you will likely find the part listed, perhaps as "FINGERPRINT RDR" or similar.
Open PartSurfer
- Select your Country
- Need Help? Tab Self help > find and open the User Guide and FAQ
Use Part Surfer:
- Enter your device Product Number , Serial Number, or Part Number in the Quick Search box
- HINT: To see a system-specific list, replace the Product Number with your device Serial Number
- Items accompanied by a tiny box in the Add-to-Cart column are available for purchase
- N/A means the part is not carried / offered for purchase by HP.
Parts marked as available for purchase might be available from: HP Parts Store
OR
Use your search engine to find the part number at your favorite online store.
