Thank you for your help, it is appreciated!  I'm shipping my laptop to HP and the technician said to remove the battery but  I am assuming he meant for me to remove it if it was a "removable" battery and not an internal one--don't you agree?

@CVCRKBOB

 This is what they may have meant.

Prior to servicing a notebook that ships with a non-removable battery, you need to ensure that the battery is disconnected from the system.

Using Ship Mode To Disconnect The Battery:

Once again, thank you very much!  Why didn't the technician fill me in on exactly what he wanted?

Greetings - sorry to say, I tried the method of holding down the windows key, backspace, and power for 5 seconds only put it in sleep or hibernate mode? Anymore suggestions?  Thanks!

Try this method???

  1. Power the computer off
  2. Connect the AC adapter
  3. Press and hold Windows+ Backspace keys
  4. Power the computer on
  5. Let go of the buttons when the HP logo appears and disconnect the AC adapter
  6. The computer will either: Power off and be in Ship Mode or Boot into Windows and then enter Ship Mode the next time it is shut down
  7. If it does boot to Windows shut down.
  8. Do not connect the AC adapter.
  9. Push the power button.
  10. If it is in Ship Mode it will not power-on.
  11. To take it out of Ship Mode connect the AC adapter and power-on.

Let me know what you find???
