I own an HP 15-da3001TU with Intel i3-1005G1, 4 GB RAM, 120 GB HP S700 SSD and 1 TB HDD. I want to upgrade to 12 GB RAM and a 500 GB NVMe SSD. Does this model support NVMe SSD, and what is the maximum RAM capacity supported?

Yes, your notebook supports a NVMe SSD.

Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates the PC can support up to 2 x 8 GB of memory, but your notebook can actually support up to 2 x 16 GB of memory.

HP 15 Laptop PC Maintenance and Service Guide

You want DDR4-2666 CL19 memory or DDR4-3200 CL22 memory.

The 3200 MHz memory will run at 2666 MHz.

I have an HP 15-da3001TU laptop with the following configuration:

Intel Core i3-1005G1 Processor

4 GB DDR4 RAM

HP S700 120 GB SSD

Toshiba 1 TB HDD

Windows 11 Home

I am planning the following upgrades:

Add one 8 GB DDR4-2666 MHz SODIMM RAM module and keep the existing 4 GB RAM (Total 12 GB RAM).

Replace the existing 120 GB SSD with a 500 GB NVMe SSD.

Keep the existing 1 TB Toshiba HDD installed.

Install Windows 11 on the new 500 GB NVMe SSD.

Use the laptop for Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, IntelliJ IDEA, and Ubuntu dual boot.

Please confirm:

Does HP 15-da3001TU support a 500 GB NVMe SSD?

Can NVMe SSD and 1 TB HDD be used together?

Is 12 GB RAM (4 GB + 8 GB) supported?

Is 16 GB RAM (8 GB + 8 GB) supported?

What is the maximum RAM capacity supported?

What DDR4 RAM speed is recommended for this model?

Is any BIOS update required before installing the NVMe SSD?

Thank you.

You're very welcome:

Does HP 15-da3001TU support a 500 GB NVMe SSD?

Yes.

Can NVMe SSD and 1 TB HDD be used together?

Yes, but you cannot have an operating system on the 1 TB HDD. It can only be used for storage.

Is 12 GB RAM (4 GB + 8 GB) supported?

Yes, but it will run in single channel mode.

Is 16 GB RAM (8 GB + 8 GB) supported?

Yes, and it will run in dual channel mode.

What is the maximum RAM capacity supported?

You can run this command in Windows Powershell as administrator to determine the maximum memory your notebook can support:  Get-CimInstance -ClassName Win32_PhysicalMemoryArray | Select-Object MaxCapacityEx, MemoryDevices

What DDR4 RAM speed is recommended for this model?

Either DDR4-2666 CL19 memory or DDR4-3200 CL22 memory.

The DDR4-3200 will automatically bridge to 2666 MHz because that is as fast as your notebook's processor can run the memory at.

Both speeds will run equally as well.

Is any BIOS update required before installing the NVMe SSD?

No, a BIOS update would not be required prior to installing a NVMe SSD in your notebook.
