HP EliteBook 1040 G1
Microsoft Windows 11

I want to get rid of the "Unknown device" under "Other devices" in Device Manager. I'm using Windows 11 To Go (yes, not officially supported) on an old HP EliteBook 1040 G1. The unknown device identifies with its device instance path:

USB\VID_8087&PID_07DC\5&4B0FF09&0&4

I figured that this probably is some Bluetooth device. I have downloaded the .inf package (raw driver package from the support site, sp66435.exe) and that solved the other three devices that had no default driver in Windows, but this one is still missing. I assume there should be an untested Win8.1 compatible driver somewhere available.

I don't care much if the device is not fully functional, but at least the error in Device Manager should go away. (But I also don't want to create a dummy .inf file to just suppress this error.)

From the device instance path, this seems to be some USB-connected device, but I assume it's still internal.

Any idea where to find the driver?

I just found a solution. See this answer here: Intel no longer has drivers for USB\VID_8087&PID_07DC&REV_00... - HP Support Community - 8597717

This is about a similar Bluetooth device and the linked driver from the Dell site worked. When running the driver from there (the .exe) just click "Extract only" and then in Driver Manager on the unknown device "update driver" and point to the extracted folder.

Let me know if there is anything newer available, but for now the problem is solved.
