I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the clickpad. I have done Windows upgrades. I have the latest driver for the clickpad (according to the system). The pointer sometimes works normally, and sometimes goes off on its own as I am trying to move it. Sometimes it just freezes. Sometimes I try to move the pointer (with 1 finger) and the screen re-sizes.

Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel.
I understand you are having issues with the touchpad freezing. I'd like to help you.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you recently made any software or hardware changes on the PC before the issue started?
Have you tried to update the Bios?
Did you try to run a test on the touchpad from F2?
Have you attempted to uninstall/delete the existing touchpad drivers and then restart to check if it works?
If you have done that, please press windows+X > Select Device Manager > Right-click on the touchpad driver > Select uninstall > Select delete the driver (checkbox) > click OK > Restart the PC (This should automatically reinstall the best working driver).
If the above doesn't help, install the latest drivers (now, after deleting the previous versions using the above steps) for your touchpad using this website: Click here
Ensure you complete all the Windows update.
Click Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available.
Next thing, I would suggest here is to update the Bios and Chipset drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link.
Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.
Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.
If the issue persists, i would suggest here is to run a test on the touchpad from F2(Please ensure to capture the failure ID for further assistance).
Could you please respond to this post with the details and with the results of the troubleshooting as this will help me in further assisting you.
Eagerly waiting for your response!
that said, If the information I've provided was helpful,
give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck.

Thanks Jeet_Singh, I did do an uninstall, but when I restarted, there was no longer an "ELAN" tab under the mouse and pointers Heading. Not even sure how I got it back, but it is there again. I DID do a BIOS update through the HP support assistant (I think).
There were about 7 or 8 updates I needed to do, BIOS being one of them. Sometimes the pointer works fine, but then sometimes it hangs up, doesn't move the way I move my finger and does weird things like resizing the screen; etc.

It's great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.
After reviewing your post thoroughly, I understand you have already tried uninstalling and updating the drivers and nothing has helped to resolve this issue.
Just wanted to check if you have tried to run the test on the touchpad from F2. If you haven't tried it yet, please go ahead and run the test and get back to us with the results.
If you have followed the steps suggested and still having the issue, In this scenario,
I will share you a private message with details. Please watch your inbox for more information.
Let me know if this helps!
Have a great day ahead! 🙂
