My laptop has currently a total of 12GB, that is 4GB on the original motherboard and an additional 8GB in one of the memory slots. I intended adding anothe 8GB (arriving at a total of 20GB) in the second slot that is currently free.
The 8GB SODIMM that I currently have installed and has been working for about five years is a SiQuell.
The label on it says: 200PIN DDR3 PC1333 8G.
According to the HP Store website the SODIMM that has 204pin is also compatible with the EliteBook8560w.
Is this true? Could I use the 204pin with this laptop?
From the wikipedia info I understood that even the slot is at a different place on these SODIMMS.
I do understand that the DDR3 and the memory speed are important and they must match, but would it work st all with a 200pin and a 204pin plugged in, at the same time?

Hi
I use Piriform Speccy to view my memory details,
Type DDR3
Size 8192 MBytes
Manufacturer Samsung
Max Bandwidth PC3-12800 (800 MHz)
Part Number M471B1G73DB0-YK0
Serial Number 328347847
Week/year 33 / 15
then I go to Crucial's website and get an opinion on what it suggests is possible / compatible.
Then Kingston and do likewise.
There are very few makers of memory, but many sellers, so research as you are doing is well worth it.

Thanks for your quick answer.
The Piriform Speccy is indeed very useful but it does not clarify anything in regards to my original question relating to the SODIMM number of pins. Would the EliteBook 8560w accept a 204-pin, seeing that I currently use a 200-pin? If so, using a mix of these would work? The issue here is whether physically the slot would accept the two different SODimms and if so what is the additional 4 pins for; would it affect the functionality if they are or are not there?

Hi,
I believe that it is probably a typo error on the label of the RAM. DDR3 RAM has 204 pins (all brands) and that is the kind of RAM you need for your notebook. 200 pin RAM can be either DDR or DDR2.
Your PC supports
DDR3 PC3-10600 SDRAM (1,333 MHz)
Hope it helps,
David

You might be right! The label on the SODIMM might simply be wrong.
I have now counted the pins!
It has 36 pins, then there is a slot followed by another 66 pins.
This makes 102 pins on the one side, that is a total of 204 pins for the two sides.
I have bought a 204 pin memory and will test it within the following days.
Once I have the result will add it here.
Thanks again for this.
