ENVY 13-ah1xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello all,

I've been using an ENVY 13-ah1xxx laptop (PID: 4XH82EA#ABH) for about 1.5 years now and while I appreciate many of it's qualities, I'm not at all impressed with it's battery performance, for 2 reasons:

1)  No matter what I do, the battery never seems to charge beyond 84% capacity.

The system is running on the latest Win10, driver and BIOS updates. I've tried different chargers (original HP!) , removing the ACPI battery driver, all to no avail. The on-board diagnostics meanwhile report both the battery and the charger as 'OK"

2) When turning the laptop off, the spontaneous battery discharge is quite high, about 10% per day. And with only max. eighty-something percent to start with, the laptop is about as dead as a dodo after not much more than a week of not-using it.

Is there a way to get this thing actually FULLY charged? Or should I be aiming for a battery replacement (under warrenty, that is) , considering the dual battery issue?

Kind regards.

Roald

I reviewed your post and I understand that battery is not getting charged more than 84%.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

What is the product number of your computer?

What is the version of BIOS installed on your computer?

Meanwhile, I recommend you boot to BIOS and check whether there is a battery care function in the BIOS. If yes, then set the battery charge percentage to 100% in the BIOS and save the changes. Restart the computer and test whether the battery is charging correctly.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

First of all, thanks for the reply, first business day after my original message!

The product number of the laptop is  4XH82EA#ABH

It's running BIOS version F.23, in which I haven't seen any battery care settings. (F.22 was no different in this battery issue, BTW)

Been there- done that. And...nope.

Battery still doesn't go beyond something around 80% capacity. Could be 76%, could be 84% after a longer period of charging, but that's it.

Battery test in HP support assistant keeps saying that the battery is fine, but some numbers strike me as odd (system language is dutch, translations off-the-cuff):

Ontwerpcapaciteit: 3454 mAh (= design capacity)

Maximale capaciteit: 2105 mAh (60%) (= max capacity)

Resterende capaciteit: 1574 mAh = (remaining capacity at the end of a charge cycle!)

Now 'design capacity' is probably a purely theoretical number, but why is max capacity SO much lower? And why is even that number not reached at the end of a charge cycle? Having only 1574 out of 3454 mAh available boils down to 45% battery capacity, 1574/2105 is  75%, which is pretty close to the battery indicator...but still disappointingv overall.

Looks like the battery is gone bad and needs replacement. However, I recommend you contact support and check once.

Here is how you can get in touch with support.

1)Click on this link – www.hp.com/contacthp/

2)Select the product type.

3)Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.

4)Select the country from the drop-down.

5)You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.

Cheers!

Thanks for your help so far.

I've contacted the vendor / authorized HP support center and they will look into it.

Their over-the-phone diagnosis was pretty straightforward: bad battery.
