So yet another Broken Hinge on the 17" ENVY Laptop !  Why are these issues happening on such an expensive Laptop? Mine is out of warranty. It's running perfectly except for this Hardware HINGE issue that is causing the screen to separate form the lid when I open it.  Was there really a CLASS ACTION suit or HP FIX for this that doesn't require the customer to pay $400 (??) to fix?  I took to BEST BUY - they couldn't do anything except "send to Kentucky" for the repair - expected turn around of 4 weeks!  I use this for my Business and can't afford to be without it that long... Nor wish to spend that much on a fix !  Has anyone fixed this on their own? If so, how do we get the part?  (this really is a crazy defect on these expensive laptops!)

Hi @Cody21,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

I see that you are facing hinge issues with your 17" HP ENVY Laptop.

This could be a hardware issue with the unit and may need repair.

I suggest that you contact HP Service Center in your location from this weblink: https://support.hp.com/us-en/help/service-center
Note: Select your country from the dropdown,  enter the city or postal code, select the product, change the radius, and click on search to locate the nearest HP Service center near your location.

Hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I tried that. I found and went to a local "repair" place. It was BEST BUY (Geek Squad). They were useless. Unable to fix it on site. They wanted a non-refundable $85 to SHIP it to Kentucky (I'm in Ca.). Said it would be around 4 weeks and about $400.  Geesh ... $485 to fix a $1,100 laptop that's about 4 years old??  And I need this thing for my business - can't wait 4 weeks.

So my initial Question was whether this HINGE ISSUE has been addressed/fixed in the Latest HP Laptop design.  I don't want to go thru this again on a new laptop in 3-4 years.

Welcome to the HP support community.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
