Elitebook 820 G2
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've just picked up the Elitebook 820 g2 from ebay, I'm looking to install a m.2 drive.  There are very few drives that seem to work in this laptop due to not being able to use a 2280 model ssd.  But I have found a ssd that says it will work in the 820 G1.  Question is are the m.2 slots the same between the G1 and the G2?  This one is only $40,  the other 2260 pcie m2 2x2's that are known to work for this model are over $200 on ebay and amazon.  If I have to spend that much i'm just going to stick with a 2.5" ssd.

Thanks for any insight.

Here is the Service Manual:

Manual

According to p. 2 it can utilize a 2260 form factor PCIe M.2 SSD.

The G1 is only specified to work with SATA 2242 M.2 SSDs.

A 2260 M.2 NVME is as rare as a hen's tooth and I am sure priced to match. A SATA 2.5 inch SSD will perform just as fast as any SATA M.2: same hardware different outer packaging is all. Yes your best deal is going to be for a 2.5 inch SATA SSD like the Samsung Evo 860 or similar.

Thank you for the info, it did look like on the g2 service manual it lists both m.2 pcie and m.2 sata drives that are compatible, but looking thru reviews people are having mixed results on what really works and doesn't, I'll repost here once I decide on a final drive.
