Hi!

We've have run into a problem with two laptops (Elitebook 840 G8) not being able to charge the battery via USB-C port after the latest system and bios update (November 2024). Have googled but yet haven't found a solution for this.

Anyone with a fix for this?

For me exact same issue with several batches of 840G8's.

Windows 11 downloads "HP Firmware 1.19.0.0" and "HP Inc. - SoftwareComponent - 1.73.4045.0"

After reboot BIOS is updated to T37 v1.19.00 dated 11/19/2024 (previously v1.18.00)

Previously working USB-C charger no longer working (wasn't unplugged during entire update process). HP Blue pin charger is working. Reboots or different USB-C chargers does not fix the issue.

Working fix for me: Shut down, then hold down power button for >30seconds, release and wait for boot, reinsert USB-C charger and is now working once again.

I have experienced this issue since this morning after I did an OS update (KB5046633), don't know for sure but i suspect it is related (I don't manage the windows updates so not easy to uninstall it) I have tried hard reset and uninstall driver for Battery without any improvement. When I plug the laptop into the dock station (USB-C), it says Charging, but the battery is drained quite fast. Also tried to connect the separated charger (Barrel connector) at the same time but does not seem to work. Charging via the barrel connector only works however but then I cannot connect to the external display, keybord etc. The battery check says that the Battery status is "normal".

Any ideas on what to do?

I called HP support and was told that there was a bios update (ver 1) that was buggy. There is a new version out now (ver 2) which fixes the problem. You need to do a bios update (check for bios updates) and then do a power cycle (unplug, turn off and press power btn for 30 sec). Plugin USB-C charger, restart the machine and problem should be fixed. Good luck!

I have tried to install the latest BIOS i found but didn't find anything about "ver1" or "ver2", do you have more information about the correct version?
Anyhow, it does not seem to have resolved my issues, still not able to charge BIOS version.png

Hi!

Same problem.. Any updates?

Hi! can you please show your bios version? and where you find ver 2 )

I have T37 Ver. 01.19.00 - 11/19/2024   and still have a issue

After you've done the BIOS update you need to do a "power cycle". Shutdown computer, remove power cable, hold on/off switch for 30 seconds. Start the computer again (might take a little while and you should hear the fans spin) and when you plugin the power cable you should see it's charging. Also only saw "ver 1" which confused me a bit at start. The power cycle is important... I've tried this on a couple of laptops which all had the same problem and it works. Good luck!

Unfortunately, no changes. I tried to do a power cycle several times.

After all the battery icon looks like it's charging, but the percentage only decreases over time.

I'll try a more powerful adapter tomorrow, I only have 65W at the moment, but that should be enough too.

Try this if you haven't: Do a "power cycle". Shutdown computer, remove power cable, hold on/off switch for > 30 seconds.
