Elitebook 8770w
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a Elitebook 8770w on the way. It is being represented as a gaming laptop with a AMD Firepro M2 XT GL graphics card in it. Does Hp even offer a gaming version.

I can not find any info on that paticular graphics card other than a place online that sells them and they say it's HP oem.

http://www.compeve.com/video-cards/mobile/hp-gfx-amd-firepro-m2-xt-gl-mobile-video-card-216-0834044

Where can I find the list for the oem approved cards. Is this on the list. If so, where is it ranked.

I'm not a gamer. But I do have a drone that can film in 4k. It would be nice if this set up would be able to view my 4k footage. But I don't think it will. I will have it hooked up to my big screen tv.

So any info on this card would be great. Thanks.

First thing the ( W ) at the end of your model number means it is a Mobel WorkStation.

(10) Graphics board (includes replacement thermal material):

AMD FirePro M5950 XT-GL 1GB GDDR5 (DP 1.2 and Eyefinity Plus support) 689279-001

Hi:

Here is the link to the quickspecs for the 8770w.

It is not a gaming laptop.  It is a business-class mobile workstation PC.  Top of the line.

I don't see the card you described listed as a card that was offered in that model.

The only AMD one I see is the

AMD FirePro™ M4000 with 1 GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory Microsoft DirectX 11 (Shader Model 5.0) and OpenGL 4.1/4.1+ capable

 (page 6).

I found it on the HP spare parts list. The part number is the first one one the list. And the only ADM on what I can see out of these on this short list.

So if it's the first one listed, does that mean that's the worst. Or does it mean it's at the top of the list,,,lol.

Copied from hp spare parts list:

Graphics board, AMD Firepro M2 XT GL
689279-001
Graphics board, NVIDIA Quadro 3000M, N14E-Q1 2GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory
689280-001
Graphics board, NVIDIA Quadro 4000M, N14E-Q3 2GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory
689281-001
Graphics board, NVIDIA Quadro 5010M, N14E-Q5 4GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory
689282-001

If you look at the link of the card in my first post you can see they had a typo on the part number.

But the 689279-001 is the correct number.

It is a Firepro M5950. Dates to 2011 DX11 support:

Good engineering card and a passable gaming card, although not really designed for it. Firepro drivers emphasize CAD type work which is somewhat inconsistent with gaming performance but as I said it still has 3D powers and can handle some gaming tasks.

With the AMD video card you have a Displayport 1.2 port. There is no HDMI port.

No 4k laptop display was offered but if you have a 4K monitor with a DP input you can easily and smoothly display 4k content on it.

It's a great laptop...nothing better out there than HP Mobile Workstations for production work and they will game also if your expectations are held in check.

Post back with any questions and please accpet as solution if this is the answer you needed.

I'm new to the forum and don't know how the "accept solution" works. I was going to accept all of them, but when I clicked on the first one it closed the rest,,,lol. Sorry.

Like I said. I don't think I care about gaming. But hey. Maybe I'll have to try it,,,lol. Might look good on my 65" tv.

So my tv is not 4k either. What's confusing my is I can play my 4k drone footage on my desk top. The monitors are not 4k. But it still plays well.

I just want to watch my uncut 4k  footage on my tv if possible.

So how do I go about connecting to my tv. I've heard mention of some kinf of hdmi adapter. Or is there a certain cabple I should get that would perform better. Thanks

HP Recommended

TV likely only has HDMI. You can get a DP to HDMI adapter and it should work. Or you can even use a casting device like Miracast and push the video to the TV wirelessly. Very cool technology and a lot of recent smart TVS has Miracast built in so you need no adapter. If not the device plugs into the HDMI port on the tv and you connect it to the house wifi network and with Windows 10 it is very easy to connect to it.

Yes the drone video you have shot will display at UP TO 4k. If you play it on a lower resolution display it will downscale. Can still look good but nothing like if you played it on an actual 4K display. Your laptop screen will play the drone footage at FHD (1920 x 1080) which has one quarter the pixels as 4K but still very rich and will look great.

My tv has hdmi and a vga port. I can come up with either cable/adapter. Would one method be better than the other. Or both about the same.
