Hi i have the same issue with my laptop, left hinge broken, case seperating and plastic pieces ending up in the cooling fan which causes it to overheat and stop working.
Who is HP is reading this and taking action its a very common fault.
The sign of a good company where customers will show loyalty time and time again is when the company acknowledges there is a problem, fixes it at nil cost and then in future designs overcomes the problem
Car companies do product recalls why not HP with laptops.
I would love HP to show to their loyal customer base that they are customer centric at heart and solve this issue
thanks Graeme Bell

Purchased my HP 17-x114dx in October 2016 and am having the same issue with the hinge pushing through the plastics when I try to open it. How can hinges seize up so quickly? This is not what I expected when I purchased the laptop-I thought HP had a better reputation. Toshiba laptops have had this problem for years-are we to assume HP has started using sub-par parts ?
Unfortunately, the laptop is no longer under warranty and now I am forced to look around for parts & someone to replace it. Hopefully HP can get in contact with me soon, as this laptop is used for my graduate program course work & if I can't open it, I can't get to my work.
HP rep, please reach out to me so I can get this fixed at a reasonable price & quickly.

I also have this issue, I'm concerned it will render my computer inoperable. The cooling fan is definitely affected, the laptop seems very hot.
I really enjoyed my compter, but I seemed to be mired with issues lately, the Beats audio stopped working with Windows 10, it was a selling feature since the logo is on the computer and now it doesn't work. I applied the fix, but it doesn't seem right that the original software to support an audio system that you bough isn't there anymore.
Also the compter is so slow now and the battery life is about 30min max. Interesting that many other people are having the same issues. What is a resonable life span for a laptop, it should be longer than 4 years.
