I want to upgrade RAM in my Envy x360 15z Ryzen 5 2500U:
Does it make sense to use 2666MHz (or even higher) Ram instead of 2400?
AMD Ryzen performance (and specially VEGA 😎 highly depend on RAM reformance. Will Envy x360-15z utilize higher speed and/or better timings than stock RAM Samsung 2400MHz/CL17?
Has anyone tried 2x16GB in Envy x360 15z?

1. AMD machines max at 16 gigs not 32.
2. Even the DDR4-2400 runs at 1866mhz so you can install DDR4-2666 but it will still run at 1866 mhz.
"DDR4-1866 dual channel support (DDR4-2400 downgrade to DDR4-1866)"-from Manual
You would be wasting your money on performance or gaming memory and might even buy something that will refuse to work.
The Ryzen appears to be a good value proposition, roughly equal to an i5 8th gen laptop processor like the i5-8220U.
Post back with any more questions but please accept as solution if this is the answer you needed.

1. There is no official limit on AMD.com regarding maximum RAM supported by Ryzen 5-2500U/7-2700U, there is maximum amount that can be ordered, or configured by HP, when configuring a new Envy X360 15z.
2. On Ryzen machines RAM actually runs in dual channel mode at 2400MHz CL17 and is already super-fast.
I can see this DDR4-1866 note in the manual, but this is definitely misleading, as RAM already runs 2400MHz.
PS. Regarding the amount and official information: I am running HP Z420 workstation with 128GB RDIMM ECC RAM, when HP manual says it supports up to 64GB of Unbuffered RAM.

If you already know the answers why did you ask?
If you do manage to get 32 gigs to run and/or running at 2400 mhz let us know so we can correctly answer the next person who asks. Post screenshots so we have something to go by.
Without actually having our hands on the machine all we can go by is published specs. I have not seen a report here of an AMD system even a Ryzen actually running 32 gigs of RAM and others have complained that on running diagnostic apps their RAM is at 1866 and they think the machine is defective.
HP Manual is fully capable of error as they say Intel 7th and 8th gen Cores will only run 16 gigs when they will really run 32 gigs.

Well, the question is if someone tried this already, in theory this should work.
Regarding 2400MHz/CL17 it is confirmed and working (also fits the Samsung RAM modules SPD), the question is if I put 2400Mhz CL15, will it run CL15? Or if I put 2666MHz run, will it run 2666, or will downclock to 2400?
Regarding RAM amount: I am almost sure 32GB will work, but it would be nice to know if someone have tested this already.

I have just installed 32GB of RAM 2x16GB to my laptop and everything works perfectly!
I used Crucial Balistix Sport 16GB sticks of 2400MHz CL16 as I got superior discount for them (almost 60% off).
Did not have chance to try 2666MHz or faster CL.
I did not benchmark CL16 vs CL17 so far, but believe there is no big difference.
So, I made my upgrade by try-and-succeed method very budget friendly and confirm RAM runs 2400MHz, dual channel and CL16.

I have a HP Envy 2 in 1 with the Ryzen 7 2700U.

I did not check your PC configuration, please make sure the mainboard has 2 slots.
If you have 2 slots you can combine your existing RAM (most probably Samsung) with any other DDR4-2400 stick.
I would go for 16GB stick and keep existing 8GB stick to have 24GB in total.
I would check the model of your existing RAM and go for same RAM manufacturer of new 16GB stick to maximize compatibility when keeping the old stick. Replacing existing 8GB with new 8GB does not make any sense, unless you have another laptop you want it to be put to.
Best regards
