Envy x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi everyone! I’m not sure which board this belongs in. I’m away from home on vacation. In my rush to leave, I grabbed my laptop but forgot the power cord that was in another room. The laptop is an HP Envy x360 with Windows 10. I later purchased a 3rd party power cord that was advertised as compatible. When I plugged it into the laptop, the light under it came on yellow and turned white as if normal, but the power light goes on and off about every 3-4 seconds. The laptop itself does not come on. I did a hard reset by unplugging the cord, pressing power button for up to 30 seconds, then replugging the cord, and pressing the power button again. I’ve done that several times and the same thing happens every time. I tried the same with a total of 3 different 3rd party power cords I bought for this problem. The battery cannot be removed in this model without opening it up. The only thing I can think is that it somehow went into sleep mode. If so, how do I wake it up? Internet search results say to press the sleep button, but no one says where that is. Some places say to go to device manager, control panel, etc. all of which I cannot do because, well, the laptop does not turn on. If it’s not sleep mode, how do I get the laptop to finally turn on? The laptop was functional before I left for vacation and had no falls, liquid damage, or other mishaps. No recent software changes. Please help.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Have you made any hardware/software changes?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

Firstly, run Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8 (if the computer doesn't start up/power on you can skip the next step)

Next step, BIOS default:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
