I have a HP Envy x360 convertible 15m-ed0xxx and the trackpad isn't working correctly. The touch works fine but when I try to "click" the pad is very hard to click and when it does it continues to highlight everything until I shut the laptop. I am fine with replacing the part myself but I would like to know a part number for a replacement.

Hi @rfdruss,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the trackpad on your HP Envy x360 is having some issues with its physical click mechanism and possibly with its software settings. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially fix the problem.

Check for Updates:

  • Ensure your operating system and drivers are up-to-date. Go to Device Manager > Mice and other pointing devices, right-click on the trackpad device, and select Update driver.
  • Also, check for Windows updates by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

Adjust Trackpad Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad and adjust the sensitivity and click settings. Sometimes, changing these settings can resolve issues with click responsiveness.

Clean the Trackpad:

  • Gently clean the trackpad with a soft, dry cloth to ensure there is no debris causing issues with the click mechanism.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Shut down your laptop, unplug it from any power source, and remove the battery if it is removable. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to reset the hardware. Then, plug everything back in and restart your laptop.

Check for Hardware Issues:

  • If the trackpad continues to be unresponsive or overly sensitive, there might be a hardware issue.

Reinstall Trackpad Drivers:

  • Go to Device Manager, right-click the trackpad driver, and select Uninstall device. Restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Not 100% sure if it was the hard restart or not but my trackpad is clicking again. I ended up taking the back plate off, removed the battery and removed the trackpad to make sure there wasn't any foreign body that somehow got in there (which there wasn't) and shook it around to make sure nothing in the trackpad had broken. When I plugged the battery back in my laptop made me put in its "Recovery Key" and now the bottom half of the trackpad clicks properly.
