HP Laptop PC 15-dw3000 (31R08AV)

Good Day

My Laptop with Product Number: 691D7EA and Serial: Edited, says Error 90B (Cooling Fan Error) when I start it up. It says this can be dangerous, but it does allow me to press ENTER and carry on.  I am worried it can stop working at any time, please help.

Hi @lungach,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I Understand your concern about  the cooling fan issue, don’t worry let me help you with this.

To assist you better, could you let me know if you’ve noticed any unusual sounds from the fan, overheating, or sudden shutdowns.

Here are a few steps you can try:

  • Check for dust buildup: Power off your laptop, disconnect it from power, and gently clean the air vents, Dust can block airflow and trigger fan errors.
  • Update BIOS: Sometimes, outdated BIOS firmware can cause false fan error messages. You can download the latest BIOS update from HP’s official support website https://support.hp.com/  for your model.
  • Run HP Hardware Diagnostics: Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly to enter diagnostics. Run the system test to check the fan and thermal system.
  • Ensure proper ventilation: Use the laptop on a hard, flat surface to allow airflow. Avoid soft surfaces like beds or couches.

If the error persists after these steps, the cooling fan may need servicing or replacement.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
