Microsoft Windows 10 IOT

Laptop was working fine with Ethernet and WiFi. Disconnected to work on upstairs and now both will not connect to home network. Checked cables, red light blinks like trying to connect but no yellow throughput light. Have taken in and connected directly and still does not connect.

Keep seeing message saying my firewall is turned off. Check firewall settings and says “there was an error opening windows defender firewall”  I cannot seem to do anything with windows defender firewall. Can’t restore defaults, cannot change notification, turn off/on nor see advanced security settings.
hopefully, can get some help as this is very frustrating.
thanks.

@j-me Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you are facing issues with the network.

Please perform the below steps and check.

Step 1 Network Troubleshooter -

1) In the search box, type and open "Troubleshooter".

2) Click on "Network and Internet".

3) Click on "Internet Connections".

Step 2 Run Network commands -

1) In the search box on the taskbar, type Command prompt, press and hold (or right-click) Command prompt, and then select Run as administrator > Yes.

2) At the command prompt, run the following commands in the listed order, and then check to see if that fixes your connection problem:

Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.

Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter.

Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.

Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.

Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.

Step 3 Re-install the Network Adapter -

1) In the search box on the taskbar, type Device Manager, and then select Device Manager from the list of results.

2) In Device Manager, select Network adapters > the network adapter name.

3) Right-click on the network adapter, and then select Uninstall device > Delete the driver software for this device check box > Uninstall.

4) Restart the computer.

Appreciate the reply. This did not work for me. I was not prompted to reinstall the driver for WiFi. I had also opened a case with hp and they provided instructions to create a usb bootable install for windows 10. I have done that but got stuck on the drive partitioning step as win10 would not proceed and hp did not provide instructions for the non-happy path. I’ll call in tomorrow for assistance.

thanks again.

@j-me

I understand your concerns.

Please perform the wireless module test and check.

1. Power off the PC and make sure that it is completely powered off.

2. Press the power button and the moment you press the power button immediately start tapping F2 key, you should see the system diagnostics screen.

3. Look for the component test, under that all the hardware will be listed, please choose the wireless module test and initiate the quick test.

Note: If it fails it will generate a 24 digits alphanumeric failure id, please capture that.

Please let us know the result.

Have a nice day!!
