@mrdeforest, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your USB flash drive is not being detected on certain USB ports, but works correctly on another port, there are several potential causes and solutions you can try:

Potential Causes

  1. USB Port Issues: The USB ports might be disabled or not configured correctly.
  2. Driver Issues: The drivers for the USB ports may not be installed or functioning correctly.
  3. Seagate DISKWIZARD Interference: The software tool may have altered some system settings related to USB ports.

Check USB Port Settings: Ensure the USB ports are enabled in the Computer Setup utility.

  • Run the Computer Setup utility and enable USB ports in Security > USB Security.

Update or Reinstall USB Drivers: Sometimes updating or reinstalling the drivers can resolve detection issues.

  • Go to Device Manager:
    • Click Start > Control Panel > Device Manager.
  • Locate the USB controller and update/reinstall the drivers.

Run the Add Hardware Wizard: After running Seagate DISKWIZARD, the system configuration might be changed. Running the Add Hardware Wizard can help detect and configure new hardware.

  • Open a Command Prompt and type hdwwiz.exe to start the Add Hardware Wizard, then follow the instructions.

Unable to solve the problem.

I am running Windows 11 home.

Try for "Check USB Port Settings":

How do I access "computer setup utility"?

Try for "Update or Reinstall USB Drivers"

Was able to try these steps but no change.

Try for "Run the Add Hardware Wizard"

Not sure what the instructions to follow are to do.

I don't see anything to do with USB or removeable storage devices.

@mrdeforest, thank you for your response

Check USB Port Settings in BIOS

Restart your laptop.

Press esc repeatedly, then enter the BIOS.

Go to Advanced > Built-In Device Options (or look for USB Configuration under Security).

Make sure USB ports are enabled and Legacy USB Support is turned on.

Remove Corrupt USB Drivers

Open Device Manager (right-click Start > select Device Manager).

Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

Right-click USB Root Hub > Uninstall device (do this for all listed).

Click View > Show hidden devices.

Check under Disk Drives and USB Controllers for any grayed-out USB entries. Right-click and uninstall them.

Restart your PC—Windows will reinstall the USB drivers automatically.

Check for Windows Updates

If the issue persists, make sure your system is up to date:

Open Settings > Windows Update.

Click Check for updates and install any available updates.

Restart and test the USB ports again.

Let me know how it goes.

Take care and have a good day.

I suggest that you test the usb flash drive on another PC or laptop's USB Type-A port to see if the issue is still present.

No success.

1. "Check USB Port Settings in BIOS"

No options as you described in the BIOS setup.

2. "Remove Corrupt USB Drivers"

Tried, but no change.

3. "Check for Windows Updates"

Tried, but no change.
