HPSA does not work for everyone / every installation.

There are a multitude of reasons for failure, including and certainly not limited to:

________________________________________________________________________

  • Not enough space on the computer to create the Restore Point

HPSA should likely fail in this case -- if the exact error is not recognized by the program, it won't know what to do and it may just hang and spin.

The fix is to free up enough space for the Restore Point to be created.

2. Increase the restore point storage area.

________________________________________________________________________

  • Unsupported Operating System

If you migrated the Operating System version beyond the supported Windows version(s), the program should catch this and refuse to attempt the check / installation.  If, for any reason, the program does not detect the problem, some portion of the procedure will just hang and spin.

There is no fix for this error / condition -- HP Support Assistant only works with supported versions of the Operating System.

 ________________________________________________________________________

  • Outdated OR Corrupted HPSA Software

Fix is to remove the old version of the HP Support Assistant and install a new / fresh version

  • Poor / slow connection on the Internet to the location where the updates are stored

You have no control over Internet speed and reliability beyond your personal network setup.  Once the request leaves your computer and races off the get the data, it is "out of your hands".

  • Remove and Replace the HP Support Assistant

Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features >

Scroll down, find, Uninstall the HP Support Assistant

After the uninstall is completed, Restart the computer and log in

Download:

HP Support Assistant

  • If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package and “double-click” to install it, else Right-Click, select run as Administrator and install.

  •  Install Drivers Manually

Know that you do not have to use the HP Support Assistant to update your installed Drivers.  Lots of people install / manage their HP drivers and software manually.

If you have “a lot of GB” on your computer, space is not a problem.

The suggestions were merely offered for consideration — ignore anything that does not apply to your situation.

For most people, removing and reinstalling fixes many issues.

The troubleshooting and how-to documents are worth a look.
