Hi, I replaced my 128 GB SSD to 1TB and 8GB RAM to 16GB. I also cleaned the fan and vent after opening the back panel. However, I feel like the fan still make some noise(lot less than before). I also came to realize that my laptop is pretty old, but it's still working pretty good. I also want to know if it's possible to not have the fan noise at all. I read about the thermal padding and all.  I tried lowering the maximum processor to 98% and i don't think it worked. 

 

Computer also feels slow. 

Please let me know what'd be the best solution for my concern?

Try these steps:

Adjust Power Settings and Maximum Processor State

Open Power Options:

  • Right-click the Battery icon in the system tray and select Power Options.

Edit Power Plan:

  • Click on Change plan settings next to your current power plan.
  • Click on Change advanced power settings.

Processor Power Management:

  • Expand the Processor power management section.
  • Expand Maximum processor state.
  • Reduce the Maximum processor state to 80-90% for both On battery and Plugged in. This can help reduce heat generation and fan activity.

Minimum Processor State:

  • You can also adjust the Minimum processor state to a lower value, such as 10-20%, which can help when the system is idle.

Apply and Save:

  • Click Apply and then OK to save the changes.

Update BIOS and Drivers

Update BIOS:

  • Go to the HP Support page and check for any available BIOS updates for your HP Pavilion 14-ce1510sa. Updating the BIOS can sometimes improve fan control and overall system stability.

Update Drivers:

  • Ensure all your system drivers are up to date, especially the chipset and thermal management drivers. Use the HP Support Assistant or manually download from the HP website.

Utilize HP CoolSense (If Available)

HP CoolSense is a utility that can help manage thermal settings and improve fan noise control.

Download and Install HP CoolSense:

  • Download HP CoolSense from the HP Support website if it is available for your model.

Configure CoolSense:

  • Once installed, you can configure CoolSense to balance between performance and thermal management, which can help reduce fan noise.

Apply Thermal Paste and Thermal Pads (Advanced Step)

Applying high-quality thermal paste and thermal pads can improve heat dissipation, which can reduce fan noise.

Thermal Paste:

  • Remove the heatsink from the CPU and GPU and clean the old thermal paste using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.
  • Apply a small amount of high-quality thermal paste (like Arctic Silver 5 or Noctua NT-H1) on the CPU and GPU die before reattaching the heatsink.

Thermal Pads:

  • If there are thermal pads on the VRMs or other components, consider replacing them with high-quality thermal pads of the same thickness.

Use Laptop Cooling Pad

A laptop cooling pad can significantly reduce internal temperatures, allowing the internal fan to run at lower speeds.

  1. Purchase a Cooling Pad:
    • Select a cooling pad with good airflow and multiple fans for effective cooling.

Thank you, Mr. Kuroi. Won't my computer be extra slow if I do 80-90 for maximum processors? I code and all so I do not want my computer to lag. Please let me know.

Your laptop fan is still making some noise because it's likely dealing with heat buildup, even after cleaning. Lowering the processor to 80–90% can reduce noise but will slow down performance — not ideal if you code or multitask. Instead, keep the processor at 100%, update BIOS and drivers, and set the system cooling policy to “Passive” on battery and “Active” when plugged in. Replacing old thermal paste and pads can significantly improve cooling and reduce fan noise. You can also use a cooling pad for extra airflow.
