Hi @Liam_Van_Laer,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A sudden change in your laptop's fan noise could indicate a few potential issues. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially fix the problem.

  • Clean the Fan: Dust and debris can accumulate inside your laptop over time, causing the fan to make unusual noises. Turn off your laptop, unplug it, and use compressed air to carefully clean the vents and fan blades. Be gentle to avoid damaging any components.
  • Check for Obstructions: Sometimes, small objects or debris can get stuck in the fan blades, causing it to make strange noises. Use a flashlight to inspect the fan area and remove any obstructions you find.
  • Update Drivers and Firmware: Make sure your laptop's drivers and firmware are up to date. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause issues with hardware components, including the fan.
  • Monitor Temperature: Install software to monitor your laptop's temperature while gaming. Overheating can cause the fan to work harder and make more noise. If your laptop is running too hot, consider investing in a laptop cooling pad to help dissipate heat.
  • Check for Software Issues: Sometimes, software running in the background can cause the fan to work harder than necessary. Close any unnecessary programs and check your task manager to see if any processes are using a lot of CPU resources.
  • Reset Power Management Settings: Sometimes, power management settings can cause the fan to behave erratically. Resetting these settings to default may help.
  • Inspect for Hardware Damage: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, there may be a hardware problem with the fan itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
