Were you within warranty for this? The exact same thing happened to me...i had it for lesslthan 3 years, but it's out of warranty. All they offered me was a HP coupon for $200...the repair will cost me $800. I'm pretty desperate right now. I don't have that kind of money and they refuse to take responsibility even though there are numerous people reporting this problem.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
