"I cannot" covers a lot of ground without really telling us what is going on...

Fingerprint Sensor is an option on the Series:

HP ProBook 440 G7 Notebook PC Specifications

This does not mean YOUR device / Product Number includes the fingerprint sensor.

Finding your Product Name, Product Number, or Serial Number

Please do NOT post the serial number or any private information – we are a public resource.

Important check...

Does the device show up in the Device Manager?

Find Device Manager - Biometric Information

  1. Control Panel > icon view > Device Manager > View “Devices by type” AND “Show hidden devices”
  2. Open category Biometric devices
  3. Look for and Right-Click on the fingerprint reader device > Properties
  4. Tab Details
  5. Under Property, “Device description”

If yes,

What have you tried?

For example, have you installed the Fingerprint sensor driver?

Synaptics FS7600 WBF Touch Fingerprint Driver

Did you create your PIN?

OK..

Things that are your Fingerprint Sensor

What you need to know, what you can do, where to look for more information...

General Preparation

Run Windows Updates > Check for Updates

If any updates are installed, Restart the computer even if not indicated that you should do so.

Update your HP Software and Drivers

Exception:  Do not yet download and update the Fingerprint reader driver

If any updates are installed, Restart the computer even if not indicated that you should do so.

Forced Reset / Hard Rest

If the fingerprint login has been working, that is, it was working before

THEN

If you think the driver version is correct,

If you wish to do so,

Before you remove and reload the driver,

Try the following Reset to kick the driver and force it to load from disk.

A Forced Reset is NOT a “recovery” and does not remove your data – this reset merely forces the computer to load the Operating System from disk.

Forced Reset does not harm a healthy system nor does it “fix” problems not related to a clean start.

Preparation

Recommended / General Information

Create a Backup of your Data

Create a backup of all your most critical / sensitive files to other than on the computer.  For example, copy your most important folders and files to your Cloud backup. to a USB stick, "Somewhere" you can access the files should the computer become unavailable.

Important Side Bar

This is a good time to remind you (and those reading) that it is essential that you always keep your most critical information (files / images / documents) backed up to a location not directly on your computer.  For example, in addition to using backup software (for example File History), keep at least your most important data backed up to a USB stick, to the cloud, "somewhere" you can access your data if your computer becomes unavailable.    Remember, too, that "Cloud" needs Internet access to work.  Think of the types of information you keep in the Safe in the garage - store "what matters most" of your digital data where you can get to it in an emergency.

Create Restore Point

Create a Restore point before you make changes to your computer's software and setups.

Stop all programs:  Browsers, games, Applications, etc.

Control Panel > icon view > System > System Protection >

Click (Highlight) your main disk (C) > Select Create a Restore Point

OR

(As available)

Create a restore point now for the drives that have system protection turned on

Create

Windows PIN

Reminder:  Windows Hello and Fingerprint logon require that you have your Windows PIN set and ready to use.

You may already have a Windows PIN login set up and ready to go.  Should there be a problem with the PIN, in most cases, you will receive a notice from Windows that there is an issue - you can then reset the PIN as needed.

Download-Save-Install Fingerprint Driver

Important:

Before making changes to the computer, check that you can log into your computer using your Windows password.

  • Download and Save the driver package to your computer
  • Open Device Manager > Biometric Devices > Right-Click on the existing fingerprint driver > Uninstall
  • Open File Explorer
  • Navigate to the folder in which you saved the installation file  (likely Downloads)
  • Right-Click on the installation package and “Run as Administrator
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in
