HP ENVY - 13-ah0001ca
Microsoft Windows 11

After installing Windows 11, the fingerprint scanner for windows hello no longer works. I have tried downloading the driver from the hp support website and it did not solve the issue. Under Settings > Fingerprint Recognition (Windows Hello), it says "We couldn't find a fingerprint scanner compatible with Windows Hello Fingerprint". I had it working before on windows 11 but after I reset I cannot get it to work again.

Hi @ZeroAZ1

Welcome to the HP Support Community. Thanks for bringing this to our notice.

I see that you are facing fingerprint scanner-related issues on your system. Do not worry, we are here to fix it.

Did you make any hardware or software-related changes to it apart from installing Windows 11?

The first solution you can try in the situation is to configure some settings in Windows Services. Here are the steps you need to follow.

  1. Open the Run dialogue box by pressing the Windows + R shortcut key.
  2. In the space provided, type services.msc, and press the enter key.
  3. Locate Windows Biometric Service.
  4. Righ-click on Windows Biometric Service and choose Properties from the context menu.
  5. Switch to the Log On tab.
  6. Select Allow service to interact with desktop option present under Local System account.
  7. Click on Apply > OK.

Reboot the system to save the changes.

You need to also make sure Windows Biometric Service is running correctly. To do so, follow the below steps.

  1. In the Services window, double-click on Windows Biometric Service.
  2. Change the Startup type to Automatic.
  3. Change Service status to Start.
  4. Click on Apply > OK.

There can be a possibility that there is some issue with the current driver update. If this is the case, you will have to roll back the driver to solve the problem. Below are the steps to do it.

  1. Press the Windows + X key and choose Device Manager from the pop-up menu.
  2. Double-click on Biometric Devices to expand the option.
  3. Select installed Fingerprint scanner.
  4. Switch to the Driver tab, and select Roll Back Driver.
  5. Click on OK.

Check if it solves the issue. If not, try the next solution on the list.

Windows lets you manually enable or disable Biometric Device in the BIOS. If the featured is disabled, you are most likely to face the problem in the question. You will have to enable the option to fix the problem. Here’s how.

  1. Press the Power button to boot your system.
  2. During the boot, press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup utility.
  3. Locate the Biometric Device option. It will be located under System Configuration.
  4. Enable Biometric Device.
  5. Press the F10 key again to save the changes and reboot the system.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
