HP Spectre x360 Convertible 15-df0xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Finger print scanner / Windows 10 have stopped working together (I no longer get the option to sign in with my fingerprint).

I think this started after most recent February Win 10 update and/or HP Support Assistant software updates.

Device manager shows that Synaptics WBDI Fingerprint Reader - USB 102 is not loaded.

Is this a known issue ?

Have you tried re-installing the fingerprint driver? If you haven't, try these steps -

1.) Right click on the Start or the Windows icon to access Device Manager.

2.) Expand the Biometric option.

3.) Right click on the fingerprint sensor and select Uninstall.
4.) Restart the PC.

Refer this article to know how to restore drivers using the HP recovery manager.

Let me know.

Hi @thepathologist

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the fingerprint issue.

Let's try to re-configure finger print reader. Please refer to "Setting up a fingerprint reader" from this link

Also, try updating the computer -

Step 1 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 2 HP Support Assistant Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks

As indicated in my initial post, the laptop is completely up to date (via Windows update & HP Support Assistant).

The problem started after updates (but I can't work out which one "broke" the fingerprint reader), which makes me suspect this has been caused by these updates.

The Fingerprint driver is not loading at start up.

There are no Fingerprint driver updates available (from HP Assistant or Windows update).

May be HP and/or Microsoft are aware of this issue & an fix is due ?

I have this same issue with a Spectre x360 13-ap0033dx.

uninstall and scan for hardware seems to work temporarily, but the issue comes back after a while.  Seems like something with the driver.
