Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP EliteBook 840 G1 2015 model and I love this laptop but I wanted a fingerprint scanner and originally this laptop said I didn’t have one. Something happened to the laptop so I reinstalled windows 10 and I was so happy for it to tell me I had one until I went to set it up put my finger on the black thing and it didn’t detect my finger. I checked all the wires and replaced the parts for it. On the right side a little bit of the black top plastic pealed off.

Check in the BIOS to make sure that it is enabled.

Have you installed the Windows 10 fingerprint sensor driver?

That still may not resolve the issue, given that nine years have passed since the laptop was brought to market, but you can still try.

In the bios it is grayed out and I can't click it, as for the drivers when I install it my computer tells me I don't have a fingerprint scanner

Laptop and PC hardware only lasts for so long.

The laptop did provide product service for many years.

It may be time to source a laptop that is of a newer generation.

There are certified refurbished laptops from many resources, such as NewEgg.com and HP itself.
