@Ank_sax, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.

It sounds like your HP Notebook is experiencing phantom key presses involving the Function (Fn) and Windows keys, which can cause unexpected behavior like opening the F1 help page or random typing. Let’s go through a few steps to diagnose and resolve this:

Perform a Hard Reset

This helps clear residual electrical charge and reset hardware connections.

  • Power off the notebook.
  • Disconnect all external devices (USB, charger, etc.).
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect only the power adapter and turn on the notebook.

Check for Stuck or Damaged Keys

  • Gently press and release the Fn and Windows keys several times.
  • Use a soft brush or compressed air to clean around the keys.
  • If the keys feel sticky or sunken, there may be physical damage.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)

This will check the keyboard for hardware faults.

  • Turn off the notebook.
  • Power it on and immediately press Esc, then F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Select Component Tests > Keyboard Test and follow the prompts.

Boot into Safe Mode

This helps determine if the issue is caused by software or drivers.

  • Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
  • Go to the Boot tab, check Safe boot, and select Minimal.
  • Restart the PC and observe if the issue persists.

If the problem disappears in Safe Mode, it’s likely caused by a driver or background software.

Update or Reinstall Keyboard Drivers

  • Open Device Manager (Windows + X > Device Manager).
  • Expand Keyboards, right-click your keyboard device, and choose Uninstall device.
  • Restart the PC to reinstall the driver automatically.

Check for Malware or Background Apps

Sometimes malware or rogue apps can simulate key presses.

  • Run a full scan using Windows Security or your preferred antivirus.
  • Check Task Manager > Startup tab for suspicious apps and disable them.

External Keyboard Test (Optional)

If available, connect an external USB keyboard. If the issue doesn’t occur with it, the built-in keyboard may need servicing.

I hope your issue is now resolved. If not, feel free to reply and we’ll continue helping until everything’s sorted!
