Recently found my old HP notebook G6-2270DX and factory reset it but it can't connect to the internet, it says connected but anything requiring internet access says there's no internet.

I am not super savvy with tech but was wondering if it's worth trying to figure out/fix the issue or taking it anywhere etc. Any help is appreciated ty

Hi @tunolno1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Pavilion G6-2270DX might be having trouble with its network settings or drivers. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot the issue.

Check Network Settings:

  • Restart Your Computer and Router: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues.
  • Check Airplane Mode: Make sure airplane mode is turned off.
  • Verify Network Connection: Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status and ensure it says you are connected.

Run the Network Troubleshooter:

  • Windows 10: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Internet Connections and follow the prompts.
  • Windows 11: Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters > Internet Connections.

Update Network Drivers:

  • Device Manager: Press Win + X and select Device Manager. Expand Network adapters, right-click on your network adapter, and choose Update driver. Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
  • If Windows doesn’t find a new driver, you might need to visit the HP website or the network adapter manufacturer's site to download the latest driver manually.

Reset Network Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network reset. This will reinstall network adapters and reset settings to default.

Check IP Configuration:

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator (search for cmd, right-click and select Run as administrator).
  • Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.
  • Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.
  • Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates. Install any pending updates.

Verify Firewall/Antivirus Settings:

  • Ensure your firewall or antivirus software is not blocking your internet connection.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
